Sustainable Ag Internships With Pennsylvania Farmers
I am forwarding this note about a very exciting program underway at Penn State. It's a team effort headed up by Heather Karsten in which undergraduate students join sustainable farmers for the summer in a sort of apprenticeship. The students learn about sustainable farming practices by doing. They also conduct a research project while on the farm. The program was a huge success last summer. If you know of students with interests in this area and who would enjoy a paid internship on a progressive sustainable farm this is a great opportunity. Please share this web-site and flier with interested students.

SYNOPSIS:
The goal of this program is to provide opportunities for students to pursue meaningful research in plant biology at their home institutions early in their college years. Ideally students should be sophomores at the time of application and would conduct the research in the following summer. Exceptionally well-prepared first-year students and juniors who provide evidence of a strong commitment to plant biology will also be considered. In addition to conducting the research, recipients will be expected to present their results at the sponsor's national meeting in the following summer, 2004. Funding to attend the meeting will be provided by ASPB Travel Grants. With this opportunity, the sponsor hopes to encourage students to pursue advanced degrees and careers in plant biology.
